The Kimball Creek Trail #532 provides access to the western trailhead of the Battlement Trail #527, the upper access of the Smalley Mt. Trail #531 and the Hawxhurst Trail #530. The Trailhead is in a small open meadow surrounded by oakbrush. The trail begins as a two track travelling wast-northeast and immediately crosses a narrow, wooden ATV bridge over Kimball Creek. The Kimball Creek Trail is a rough trail because of the steep grade that it travels and also due to several areas where the trail is full of boulders and has significant erosion. It is passable for ATV travel but should be used with extreme caution.

The Miner’s Creek trail is 7 miles long. It begins at the end of Forest Road 507 and ends at Forest Trail 787. Good Fishing is possible in the upper 2/3 of the Miners Creek Drainage. Opportunities to see elk are possible in the early morning and late evenings. Good camping sites exist along all but the lower segments of this trail. The trail crosses Miners Creek several times in the first 2.0 mile segment. Foot crossings can be dangerous during early summer runoff. Scenery and solitude are available along this trail. Excellent views of white chalk-like cliffs are present at the head of Miners Creek. The trail starts at the end of FDR#507 (Miners Creek Road) and immediately crosses Miners Creek and parallels the creek in the narrow canyon bottom. After crossing the creek several more times, the trail begins to climb out of the creek bottom and through some dense stands of aspen along the southwest facing slopes of Miners Creek. After climbing for about a mile, the trail will turn and cross Miners Creek Drainage. The trail will wander from the creek and traverse through some small open parks and scattered spruce/fir stands. Shortly after returning to Miners Creek, the trail will parallel the creek through a very narrow gorge, pass through an old-growth spruce/fir stand and then enter a large open meadow near the headwaters of Miners Creek. The trail junction with FDT#787 (La Garita Stock Driveway) is in the southeast end of the open meadow. The junction is signed.

Morrison
This is a popular motorized trail, it is also known as Muddy Slide. The trail begins adjacent to private land and proceeds southwest, passing through sagebrush-covered meadows, for the first 0.5 mile. Continuing in a southwesterly direction, it climbs a small hill covered with lodgepole pine and then descends to Muddy Creek at mile 1.1. Turning east, it gradually ascends to an elevation of 8600 feet. The trail drops to Clear Creek, and then follows Clear Creek’s drainages back up the east slope of Green Ridge. Several switchbacks are required to make the climb. The trail finally breaks onto the ridge top at an elevation of 10,258 and approaches Muddy Slide from the north. Muddy Slide is a geologic landslide. This stop point offers spectacular views of the Morrison Creek Valley and the Sarvis Creek Wilderness.
The remainder of the trail passes through lodgepole pine following the east slope of Green Ridge to Lynx Pass, with scenic vistas along the way. No facilities provided.

Directions: Located 8 miles north of Cedar River via M-35 and County Road 551 Trail Description: Big Cedar River – Logging along the Big Cedar River began in the 1840’s. Logs were floated downstream to the sawmill in the town of Cedar River. The lumbermen built dams along the river and it’s tributaries to impound the water to be used in flushing the logs downstream during the spring drives. The last log drives were in the early 1920’s. After the completion of the river drives, many logs remained stranded on banks, sand bars, and in deep pools. Many of these “deadheads” were salvaged during the depression era of the 1930’s, and some remain in the river to this day. Features: Cross Country Skiing Hiking Biking Mountain Biking Ski Skating Cedar River North State Forest Campground Phone number indicated above is for the Management Unit. Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations. 18 sites for tent and small trailer use, 4 of which are walk-in sites for tent camping only. Negwegon State Park is a rustic, undeveloped area open for hunting and Hiking.. Negwegon hosts a beautiful undeveloped sandy beach on Lake Huron. Please use caution when visiting Negwegon as the roads into the park are often so sandy that a four-wheel drive vehicle is needed. Negwegon State Park is an undeveloped state park in Alpena County and Alcona County, Michigan, just southeast of the unincorporated community of Ossineke. It covers 3,738 acres (1,513 ha) with a long sand beach on Lake Huron. The sand road that cuts through the forest and leads to the entrance of the park may require a 4WD vehicle. At the boundary between private/county land and state land, the thin sand two-track road, Sand Hill Wilds Road, becomes a very wide groomed gravel road, Negwegon Park Road. Activities Hiking: There are 11.6 miles (19 km) of hiking trails. Camping: camping is permitted at four primitive, walk-in sites that require reservations. Kayaking: Canoeing and kayaking in Lake Huron with access to all four campsites Hunting: The park is open to hunting (deer, turkey, rabbit, woodcock, duck, goose and squirrel). Metal detecting: Allowed on part of the beach but finds must be inspected by staff.

Bohemia National Recreation Trail #1407 The Bohemia Trail was originally constructed in 1864-65 as the first organized effort for a wagon route to the Bohemia Mines from Oakland, Oregon. Most of this route was on private land and has since been abandoned and/or obliterated by road construction. However, this section of trail through National Forest land remains intact, following the forested Calapooya Ridge from the west trailhead on Forest Road 23 to Canton Point. This 4.2 mile section of trail is designated as a historic National Recreation Trail. The trail continues 2.5 miles north to Shane Saddle. The original route once continued north to Bohemia City, however, roads and private mining claim activities have since obliterated this last section. The remaining 7 miles of historic trail travels through old-growth forest, rock cliffs, and an occasional open meadow.

The Elkhorn Crest Trail (#1611) was established as a National Recreation Trail in 1979. It is the highest trail in the Blue Mountains and runs along the Elkhorn Mountain ridgeline across sub-alpine forests and grasslands. The trail offers panoramic views of the Baker Valley, the distant Wallowa Mountains and the Blue Mountains. Along the way you can also view six high mountain lakes, craggy nearby peaks and maybe catch a glimpse of a herd of elk or resident mountain goats. There are several end point and side access trailheads for the Elkhorn Crest including the Elkhorn Crest Trailhead on the northend near Anthony Lakes and Marble Pass Trailhead on the south end. Water on the trail is scarce and unsafe to drink if not previously treated. Due to the trail weaving in and out of wilderness, mechanized use is limited on many sections of the trail.

Sucker Creek Trail #1256 Trail is maintained on a regular basis. This is a very scenic trail that winds through undisturbed stands of old-growth timber. The trail begins at spur road 260 and gradually descends to Sucker Creek. A number of small creeks and springs cross the trail, providing easy water opportunities. The trail crosses a large slide area, about which stories tell of a number of miners who perished years ago in its destructive path. The trail eventually reaches Sucker Creek, which has to be forded. Care should be taken when fording here – though it is relatively shallow in the summer, heavy rains may raise the level of the creek enough to make crossing hazardous. Once across, the trail follows Sucker Creek a short distance to an unimproved campsite near the Johnson Creek Bridge on Forest Road 5591. The Western Rim National Recreation Trail (#1774) is a long ridgetop trail along the westen rim of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. The trail begins in the south at the P.O. Saddle Trailhead and goes along the Hells Canyon Wilderness boundary ending at Dug Bar on the Snake River. The scenery is constant and spectacular with views of the Hells Canyon Wilderness and the Snake River Canyon. Due to the location of the trail, it travels along forest roads and areas that have different motor-vehicle allowances and restrictions. The southern section starts at PO Saddle and enters into the wilderness past Saulsberry Saddle, then goes across Freezeout Saddle to Jim Springs on the Hat Point Road (Forest Service 4240) near Saddle Creek Campground. This trail section goes in and out of the Hells Canyon Wilderness so is closed to all motor-vehicle use and bicycles.
